Wielu ludzi wkłada bardzo dużo energii w to, by nasze miejskie życie stało się bliższe naturze, a idea miasta przyjaznego człowiekowi staje się coraz bardziej popularna. I to do tego stopnia, że opinia „zielonego miasta” staje się gwarancją rozwoju. Nadeszła więc pora na to, by to pokazać.
Nic dziwnego, że w miastach żyje już ok. połowy ludności świata, a migracja do miast jest trwałym trendem – życie w mieście jest po prostu wygodne. Szacuje się, że do 2050 r. w miastach będzie mieszkać mniej więcej ⅔ ludności świata, czyli ok. 7 mld ludzi. Życie w mieście ma jednak swoją ekocenę. Już dziś miasta odpowiadają za 75% światowego zużycia energii i 80% emisji zanieczyszczeń. Miasta wciąż rosną – będą więc odpowiedzialne za jeszcze większy odsetek światowych emisji. Jednak wraz z rozwojem samych miast stale rośnie zapotrzebowanie na miasta zielone, ekologiczne, w których można żyć w większej harmonii z naturą. Coraz liczniejsze są też plebiscyty i konkursy typujące najbardziej zrównoważone miasta.
